It's at that nice place where my jRPG and my wife's Pokemon interests intersect. I need to finish it someday.

Also, nice to see you around again! Yeah, Really, really!

(and I do mean it)

Jade Cocoon 2 is one of my all-time favorite PS2 games. I could not put it down. Then again, I'm a sucker for monster training and cute anime girls.

The thing that really cinched it for me was the character design and he quality of the acting facial animation. It s weird because I m one of those guys that always touts gameplay mechanics revolutionary art design and high-falutin concepts over all else and this game didn t seem to have any of those. He s got the standard protagonist-tough-guy gravelly voice but it s one of those rare times that it doesn t seem forced.

Just two comments, because I think we are mostly in agreement.

First, I think the reason for just 4 of the mannequins is the need to support SD screens. My wife Joessam plays it on her SD and it's nearly illegible, and there are parts that don't fit on the screen at all. Obviously, this need will ultimately go away, but I think they were trying (if not very hard) to support SD.

Second, I may have overstated the need to change the framework of the game. I think that what they need is to be brought into alignment with each other. If your metaphor isn't working (why is 'getting better at melee' something I can find in a chest?) then you either need to fix the metaphor, or the thing it's representing, depending on what your real goals are.
